Goal Setting Toolkit

Setting goals gives us direction, motivation, and a sense of purpose. Whether you're working toward personal growth, building healthy habits, or making meaningful changes, having clear goals helps you stay focused and make steady progress. This toolkit is designed to help you set achievable goals, break them down into manageable steps, and build lasting motivation along the way. Check out our templates and downloads for a printable version to fill in yourself!

Use the SMART Goal Framework

  • Specific – What exactly do you want to achieve?

  • Measurable – How will you track progress?

  • Achievable – Is it realistic for you right now?

  • Relevant – Why does this goal matter to you?

  • Time-bound – When do you want to achieve it by?

Break Goals into Smaller Steps

  • Turn big goals into small, actionable tasks

  • Celebrate mini-milestones to stay motivated

  • Focus on progress, not perfection

  • Set process goals, not just outcome goals > Outcome: “Finish writing my book by December.” > Process: “Write for 20 minutes every weekday.”

Use Habit Stacking

Habit stacking means pairing a new habit with one you already do.

  • Link a new goal to an existing routine

  • Example: “After I brush my teeth, I’ll write down one thing I’m grateful for.”

Set Accountability Supports

  • Share your goal with a friend or support person

  • Join a group with similar goals

  • Check in weekly with yourself or someone else

Visualise Success

  • Imagine what achieving the goal will feel like

  • Create a vision board or write a "future you" letter

  • Use a habit tracker, checklist, or journal to track progress visually

  • Seeing progress boosts motivation and confidence

Practice Self Compassion

  • Expect setbacks—they're part of growth

  • Be kind to yourself and refocus rather than give up

  • Use mistakes as learning opportunities

  • Speak to yourself the way you would speak to a friend – with kindness, patience, and encouragement.

Celebrate Wins (Big or Small!)

  • Recognise effort as well as results

  • Build in small rewards or moments of joy

  • Reflect on how far you've come
